The CCHRA has announced some important changes to upcoming NPPA Exam in May.

THE BEST PLACE for you to see all the information about these changes is on the CCHRA Website where you will find a full explanation plus a Q&A section that should answer all your questions:

IN SUMMARY

The first key difference for exam writers is that they will now need to select the best and worst response to each scenario presented, with each response being worth one (1) point. This is a change from the previous answer format, where exam writers only selected the best course of action from four possible answers (one worth 5 points, one worth 2 points, and two worth 0 points). This change should have minimal impact on exam writers as candidates most often eliminate the worst answers in their process of selecting the best response.

The second key difference is that the number of scenarios will increase from 40 to 45, to enable CCHRA to pre-test five scenarios at each session. Pre-test questions will not affect the score and are used in examinations as an effective and legitimate way to test the validity of future examination questions. The pre-testing questions will be randomly placed throughout the examination.  This will not affect your ability to finish the exam in the 3-hour time allowed.

Although these changes are very important, they are NOT big. Please rest assured that these changes do not invalidate any exam preparation you have undertaken to date, as the NPPA will be based on the same body of knowledge and will contain the same types of scenarios as before.

Most successful exam writers in the past engaged a practice of elimination by scoring each option to find the best answer. So now it will just be necessary to make your worst choice known (as well as your best choice).

We have updated our on-line NPPA Exam Preparation Course with new materials and the new grading scheme. Every scenario and incident has been edited to ensure they contain a worst answer in addition to a best answer. Also, 10 new practice questions have been added..

YOUR ACCESS TO THIS WEBSITE HAS BEEN EXTENDED. All current registered course participants (people who registered after October 4, 2008) will be able to have continued access to the NPPA Exam Preparation Course Website up to May 2, 2009, the date of the exam, at no additional cost.

If you have any questions about these important changes, your provincial association is in the best position to answer them.
